After having Noah we have done alot to raise awareness but this has to be the biggest

we've done so far

 

Noah was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, he was fitted with a shunt (head drain) at birth and is paralysed from below the chest. Noah has defied both the odds and medical expertise right from birth and melts hearts with his smiles. Mum Shelly has worked and campaigned tirelessly and has been invited to Westminster to speak about the importance of folic acid and B12 supplements for prospective mothers.

 

The Gala Dinner aims to raise as much awareness of these issues as possible, highlight sources of important information and of course raise much needed funds for Noah’s ongoing care.

Although the girls where nervous I think they did really well ! also that morning ally got her mock GCSE results these are not her final results as ally gets those next year but the marks do count towards, Ally was brave enough to open them live on air ally thoughout the year has been studing very hard even though shes had to deal with being bullied & also having to deal with thoughts & ideas for her then unborn little brother ! I am very pleased to say that Noah was born very disabled but very alive on the 6th March 2012.

When ally opened her results I could tell listening to the radio that she wasnt happy & coming out of the studio looked at me and burst into tears I am VERY PROUD of my daughters and I personally think that allys amazing so when Theo Paphitis tweeted this morning I had to tell theo

 

I text ally and told her that Theo had sent a message ! this was her reply

Ally would like to say thank you to Theo Ive just taken this picture shes in her cadets uniform as the Air Cadets have been to an event this morning where by they serve the Mayor Of Carlisle his breakfast

Babybobbins needs micturating cystogram, Sensory room & Physio room

Noahs doing so well I had to blog hes been moving slightly his legs to crawl, lifting them up in the air from his waist, & now trying to hold his own head up, blowing rasberrys, reaching up with both hands/arms to be picked up doesnt happen all the time, but this is amazing to think just what noah can do with a tiny bit of brain, yesterday noahs been holding spoons in each hand while I feed him his breakfast which is pureed pears (which is also done to keep noah regular without using medication, homemade & then frozen ready to use every morning) food has been everywhere (giggles) its been so funny to watch and incredable to see noah feed himself, noah even grabbed with his fingers & thumb a rattle hanging from his play gym he amazes me every day


Next week we are off to the RVI hospital for a micturating cystogram to assess noahs bladder, as parents we want whats best for noah and seeing his progress so far feel he doesnt need catheterisation (not yet anyway) noah has full stream and also knows when his nappys dirty too & so much so makes a fuss there and then to be changed and doesnt matter if he hasnt finished his feed either, with noah going under a general anaesthetic again this decision hasnt been taken lightly at all but the out come will tell us whether noahs bladders emptying ok and the valves are working ok and also if theres any stones or not.

Had a visit from the Occupational Therapist lady to assess our home, noah will need to be able to get about in an electric wheelchair & also need to get upstairs to what will be noahs bedroom, bathroom we will need downstairs shower room or bath, we will also have to think about me doing noahs physio as I cant get up & down off the floor and so far ive managed to do noahs physio on a changing mat that goes across the top of his cotbed, with noah getting very long a gaining weight i'll need a hoist to lift noah onto some sort of ajustable bed, maybe a physio bed ?

The other thing at the moment im doing is looking into carseats and although noahs trying to hold his head up it will still need supported whilst in his carseat so the Occupational Therapist will be asking rep's to see if they can help as noah will need a carseat that isnt upright.

Noahs nurseries on the top floor and a lift cant be put in to make the top floor assesable for him so we are now going to start decorating yet another room & have a jiggle about, door ways dont meet to the 900mm needed for a wheelchair either, bedroom sizes are ok but noah still needs his turning circle of 1500mm, light switches & sockets are not at the right hight etc etc the councils coming next week to see whats possible with extension to my sewing room & see if it would be easier to have a bedroom, bathroom downstairs for noah or not

If anyone reading my blog knows of where we can get any help from charities then Id be really grateful im wanting to buy some lights for noahs room making it a sensory/physio room for him

everything thats for a disabled person seems to be tripple the price ????

Noah's Audio Boo

Just thought Id do a quick blog about Noah's second Audio Boo as noahs first one was his heartbeat before he was born, amazing to think he can actually make noises too, noahs teething at the min, and you can see them under the skin ready to pop out at any min, calpol & teething gel at the ready, even with this noahs still such a happy baby

Birth of Baby noah our amazing little spina bifida boy !

seems such along time ago since I blogged this picture was taken on the 6th March 2012, So much has happened little did hubby or I know that 3 hours after this picture was taken we would be hearing our son cry for the very first time, I had to have a emergency section within the 3 hours as noahs head was so big it was actually life threating for both of us ! the doctors asked if they could take fluid off noahs brain through my tummy before the birth and we said no as this could harm him, we where able to help a student william lovely lad aged just 19 he looked really sad when he came into threatre mind you so did everyone, as we'd been told noah wouldnt live and thats why we had put everything into place with noahs funeral in the january, william how ever was interested to do a case study for newcastle uni and put together a presentation, we where able to help william over the week with very personal interviews and feelings about the whole experience and later with another 7 students that came to the ward,  everyone was expecting including ourself that noah would maybe live mins,hours,days ? his condition was expected to be that bad !

Our little noah what a journey already my darling little boy so much fluid in his body and his head was so huge made his eyes roll about, i was convinced noah was blind too, noah had to be lay on his side because of his spina bifida

Doctors did say this was alot better than expected and also they where able to close it ! I remember just crying happy tears thinking my god my babys alive and hes not going to die !

our girls in special care baby unit ally was crying holding noahs hand and looked at me said "mum noahs breathing isnt it amazing"

Forms where signed and mummy & daddy and our girls followed noah down to threatre 48 hours after he was born to have his back closed up this travelling cots called an "ARK" it was a sign !!! ;0)

Noah had his back closed up after the doctors saying it would be far to big to be closed up ! amazing Miss Nicolson did an amazing job and we could never thank her and her team enough for what they did for noah x

also a shunt was fitted into noahs head for his hydrocephalus as this point we where told noah had the 1/4 left handside of his brain missing

Doesnt noah look lost intensive care, I couldnt leave his side at all, apart from taking these photos the rest of the time i just held his hand.

Our lovely nurse looking after noah in intensive care giving noah his very first taste of breast milk (9th march 2012) sad it was through a tube after expressing every 2 hours night & day since he was born but a very good start to life !

Noah Wall how amazing you are ! as you can see from the picture noahs shunts quite far back and after we left noahs scar kept leaking ;0( we had so many trips to the hospital for gluing and re-stitching

noah needed his shunt removed and a 7 week stay in hospital after noah getting an infection in his brain fluid (CSF fluid), because noah had his shunt removed the doctors had to do whats called daily taps and remove the fluid by placing a needle and draining off 20/40ml of brain/spinal fluid

This made noah have hurrendous headaches, noah would try and sleep but it was really difficult as every little noise would wake him even his own suck on his dummy, you could tell with his cry he was in alot of pain when the infection had gone another shunt was put in the opposite side of his head and whats called a wash out 2 Ltr's where used as the protein level in the brain fluid was still really high and this would of blocked the new shunt so the shunt a little further forward to save noah catching it when he turned his head, and time for noahs own body to replace the brain fluid (CSF fluid)  it was decided for the best to stay in hospital until the stitches where removed

we where in the best place after all RVI newcastle hospital was amazing

noah decided to surprise us all by moving his legs !!

 as you can see from this phone picture that noah doesnt have much brain at all, its the grey bit at the front also as you can see his eye socket doesnt have anything contecting them either

To think noah knows to open his own eyes, now crys & makes a fuss for his food is incredable hes bending his legs, laughing, smiling, eating baby rice, reaching for things, and very recent trying to crawl, it doesnt seem as if im typing talking about the same baby !!!

To enter this competition, businesses must send a tweet to @TheoPaphitis between 5:00pm and 7:30pm using the hashtag #SBS. Theo reads all the entries and personally selects his favourite six to retweet to his massive list of followers that currently stands at over 230,000.
He says he started the competition in October 2010 because, “Sunday is the day that I do all my thinking”.
Yesterday, (Sunday 18 March 2012 – Mother’s Day) there were an amazing 1,747 tweets to @TheoPaphitis with the #SBS hashtag. (Statistics courtesy of @virtualbuscent).
Sarah Dening, owner of Shop On Your Doorstep, was chosen by Theo Paphitis as one of his winners. Her tweet was then retweeted to his 230,000 followers:
